The fierce Lord (Rudra) who dances with a fierce appearance, He whose neck is darkened because of the Hālāhala poison, who sports a fiery third eye (on His temple), His matted locks where one can glimpse the beautiful face of celestial Devī Gaṅgā, so that her sheer force would not destroy the earth. ||1||

Praise the Lord Śrī-Śaṅkara! We offer an aratī to You, whose skin art fair as camphor. ||धृ०||

The fair one is (very) simple and honest with big eyes, Whose consort Parvati occupies one half of His body (Ardhanārīśvara), Who is adorned with a garland of (fragrant) flowers, He who adorns Vibhūti (ashes) which is besmeared all over his body, and sports a blue neck. Like that, Śaṅkara is the beloved of Umā.||2||

Praise the Lord Śrī-Śaṅkara! We offer an aratī to You, whose skin art fair as camphor. ||धृ०||

When the Gods and the demon churned the ocean, all of a sudden emerged the deadly Hālāhala poison capable of incenerating the whole universe. Happily without hesitation, Lord Śankara drank this deadly poison (out of the great compassion for all the creatures since none was capable of withstanding the deadly venom), and thus became wellknown as Nīlakaṇṭha, the dark throated one (since the poison was stopped by the divine mother Umā at the throat). ||3||

Praise the Lord Śrī-Śaṅkara! We offer an aratī to You, whose skin art
fair as camphor. ||धृ०||

The adorer of tigerskin as garment, the great serpent (Vāsuki) as ornament, and the destroyer of Madana (Manmatha – or the god of love), The five faced one who who is all attractive and the beswower of peace upon the sages. Even with innumerable bījas , When (I), the servant of the the scion of the lineage of Raghu, Rama – Ramadāsa utter (in the mind), this is but enough to describe/glorify the great Lord Śaṅkara.||4||

Praise the Lord Śrī-Śaṅkara! We offer an aratī to You, whose skin art
fair as camphor. ||धृ०||
